A lot of viewings go like this: you stand in the middle of the room, look around, decide it seems fine, and leave. Only at home do you remember you never turned on the tap, never measured the desk, and never asked how the bills work.
A viewing at RUNWAY 1331 usually takes about half an hour. Save this list on your phone and go through it on the day.
Before you go: three things to decide
Which layout you want to see. CityHome has four layouts at RUNWAY 1331, and they suit very different uses. Living alone and want sleeping and studying kept apart? Look at Classic Single A. Prefer an open plan? Single B. Sharing with someone? The Twin Room. Need a workspace you can bring clients to? The Studio Office. If you haven’t decided, read Single A or B? and Two people, one room first.
When you want to move in, and for how long. Those two answers decide which rooms are available and what the quote will be, so tell us when you book.
How you’ll get there. The address, MTR stations and shuttle are covered in How to get to RUNWAY 1331. Leave some extra time on your first trip.
In the room: test things, don’t just look
Photos show you roughly what a room looks like. These are the things you only find out by trying them:
- Run the shower and the tap. Check the water pressure and how long the hot water takes
- Turn on the air conditioning. Listen to how loud it is, and look for a dehumidify mode. You’ll want it in summer and in the damp spring weeks
- Open and close the windows. Make sure they shut tight and latch. This matters in typhoon season, as explained in Typhoons and rainstorms
- Measure the desk. If you’re bringing an external monitor or a drawing tablet, bring a tape measure or use your phone
- Count the sockets. See how many there are by the bed and the desk, and work out where your chargers will go
- Check the storage. Open the wardrobe and picture two suitcases’ worth of things inside. What’s already provided and what to bring is in Before you move in
- Check your phone signal. Make a call or play a video in the room
Take a photo or a short video after each check. You’ll want them when comparing rooms later.
Outside the room: walk your daily route
At RUNWAY 1331, daily life isn’t only in the room, so spend ten minutes walking around the village after the viewing:
- Walk from the room to the shuttle stop. You’ll do this every day, so know how far it is
- See what’s outside the window. Courts, a walkway or the sea? Rooms facing the courts are livelier, which matters if you like quiet
- Walk part of the shop street. See how easy it is to buy food and everyday things
- Go and see the aircraft on the lawn. It serves no practical purpose, but you shouldn’t leave RUNWAY 1331 without seeing it
Before you sign: questions to ask
The answers depend on the layout and the length of stay, so ask in person, and go by the written quote we give you:
- What’s the shortest lease, and how does renewal work?
- How much is the deposit, when can deductions be made, and how soon is it returned after you move out?
- How are water, electricity and internet charged?
- What’s the earliest move-in date?
- Can you choose the floor or the view?
For what to look out for in the contract itself, see Leases and deposits.
Afterwards: no need to decide on the spot
Go home, put the photos, videos and quote side by side, and reply when you’re sure. If you’re comparing other places too, Three things people miss when choosing co-living will help.
Once your list is ready, book a viewing. Tell us which layout you’d like to see and when suits you, and we’ll confirm the time and tell you where to meet at RUNWAY 1331.
