RUNWAY 1331 is on the old Kai Tak runway with water on three sides, so it doesn’t sit on the side of any main road. First-time visitors who only follow a dot on a map often end up circling near the cruise terminal. This post goes in order: the address, then how to travel, then how to find your way once you’re on site.
The address
English: RUNWAY 1331, Shing Fung Road, Kai Tak, Kowloon, Hong Kong
Chinese: 香港九龍啟德承豐道 啟航1331
Searching “Runway 1331” or “啟航1331” in a map app usually finds it. If it doesn’t, search for “Kai Tak Cruise Terminal” instead, because the village is right next to it. Some maps still show the old name, Kai Tak Community Isolation Facility, which is the same place.
MTR: the Tuen Ma line, then the shuttle
RUNWAY 1331 is served by the MTR Tuen Ma line. The two nearest stations are Kai Tak and Sung Wong Toi.
Westbound, the Tuen Ma line runs through Hung Hom and East Tsim Sha Tsui towards Kowloon and the western New Territories. Eastbound, it runs through Diamond Hill towards Ma On Shan. From East Tsim Sha Tsui, Hung Hom or Ho Man Tin you won’t need to change. From Hong Kong Island, take the East Rail line to Hung Hom and change there; from the Kwun Tong line, change at Diamond Hill or Ho Man Tin.
From the station, the village runs a free shuttle bus to and from the MTR, which is the easiest part of the trip. Shuttle times and stops are as published by the village, so check the day’s arrangements before your first visit. If you’re coming for a viewing, ask us when you book and we’ll tell you where to catch it.
Taxi: ask for Shing Fung Road
A taxi is the most direct option. Tell the driver “Shing Fung Road, Kai Tak — RUNWAY 1331”. Most drivers speak Cantonese, so showing them the Chinese address on your phone (啟德承豐道 啟航1331) helps.
If the driver doesn’t know the new name, “next to the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, the old isolation facility” usually does it. Once you’re close, look for the red-and-white aircraft on the lawn. That’s the village.
From the airport, high-speed rail or the boundary
If you’re arriving in Hong Kong for the first time with luggage, the route is longer than a city commute:
- From West Kowloon high-speed rail station: walk to Austin station on the Tuen Ma line, then ride east to Kai Tak with no change
- From the airport: take the Airport Express and change to the MTR, or take a taxi all the way
- From Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau: take the East Rail line to Hung Hom, then change to the Tuen Ma line
Each route, and what to watch for with luggage, is covered in Heading home or to the airport: routes out of Kai Tak. The same advice works in reverse.
Bike or on foot
If you’re already in Kai Tak — at Runway Park or the cruise terminal, say — you can walk straight over along the promenade. The roads are flat and the cycle tracks are continuous, and there are shared-bike docks in the village, so cycling in is easy too.
Finding your way once you’re in
RUNWAY 1331 is a big site, with rooms spread across rows of blocks. Three landmarks will keep you oriented:
- The retired aircraft and the rainbow RUNWAY 1331 letters on the lawn. The easiest spot on site to find, and a good place to meet someone
- The walkways with a runway centreline painted down them. Follow the dashes and you’ll pass every row of blocks
- The 680-metre culture and sport street. It runs through the village, lined with yellow steel stairs
If you’ve booked a viewing, we’ll tell you where to meet in advance. Call or send a WhatsApp when you arrive.
